And, maybe next, things will come… expensive!
Preparing and finishing a triathlon race, in the mythical Ironman distance, will never be a simple task. However, more and more athletes worldwide, coming from triathlon, other sports or even directly from sedentary lifestyle, successfully complete the race. It is a worldwide phenomenon where amateur athletes take Ironman as a lifestyle, with volumes of training and results very close to professional athletes, around which a huge business develops.
It was precisely in the two Ironmans that I had done, during the months of preparation training, during the events or after them, that I experienced the greatest emotions and feelings of accomplishment and personal overcoming. After Ironman Barcelona in 2015 and Challenge Roth in 2017, the best was yet to come…
The Spirit of 78 Triathlon represents for me the essence of sport, the pleasure of competing, of overcoming ... When I was told about the possible realization of the race, I immediately joined the idea. Without promotion, without external motivational factors, without medals, without exposure, without recognition ... In the greatest possible simplicity. Just because. Because I love this sport. Because I love to take my body beyond the limits that I thought existed. Because I love having so little to test and, with so little, giving everything and continuing.
Participating in the first edition of Spirit of 78 Triathlon was incredible. And it was not more incredible than previous experiences just because it did not have the same logistical and financial complexity. It was, in fact, a race in which all athletes gave everything they had to overcome themselves, to beat the opponent, to honour the support of all friends and family who were there to ensure that the race was a success, not missing nothing to the athletes, in a fantastic environment of friendship, mutual help and team spirit. Just because. Because we like long distance triathlon.
