The Spirit of 78 Triathlon
A tribute to the first athletes to complete the 3,8Kms swim, 180Km bike ride and 42Km run which was Ironman’s first edition in Hawaii in 1978.
39 years later on October 7th 2017 a group of friends gathered to repeat the ordeal trying to recreate the original spirit of the original race.
2017 enabled us to get to 2018 announcing the best replica of race which ended up creating a new sport a worldwide movement and a lifestyle which has been created 40 years ago.
In 2023 we will hold the seventh edition of this event that has marked all those who participate in it.

Tribute
Every athlete at the starting line should have the feel of the first race in Hawaii in 1978.
Mandatory moustache
In order for the spirit of the 70’s to exist, it’s mandatory that every male athlete has a moustache, beard or any other facial hair.
Speedo and Top outfit
The main goal is to keep the race as faithful to the original as possible. Speedo’s are strongly encouraged to wear and top sleevless shirts. Cycling shorts can be worn as well as running shorts and top. Exception made to neoprene swimsuits for security reasons.
Iron and Alluminium bycicles
Time trial bicycles and Aero helmets are banned from this event. We do encourage the use of steel bikes with gear changing on the frame.
Friendship and competition
The main goal of this event is to give a day competing and at the same time preserving the principles of friendship where socializing and companionship are present amongst all athletes and team mates, family and friends who want to help out.
Limited Registrations
In order to maintain the spirit of the first edition of the Ironman the inscriptions will be limited to 80 athletes. These entries will not have any cost, athletes only have to fill out a form and wait for them to be drawn.
